I can't possibly cram all my reasoning here (read my full--and I mean FULL--dispatch on stoves over at Homeward), but this is the stove I went for in Ojai. I’d long had a dream of owning the classic AGA, but as someone who occasionally tests recipes, I can’t use a range with pre-set temperatures. Also, the classic made no sense aesthetically in our Ojai home. I have a fondness for British modern design and there was something about the Mercury that brought to mind the work of architect and designer John Pawson. I liked the 5 burner layout on the 48-inch model, which has a large and powerful center burner (17,500 BTUs). I also liked the oven layout with a convection oven on the right, a second oven, and a separate broiler drawer on the left. I went with the duel-fuel range and opted for stainless steel. (Annoyingly, I had to pay $399 extra to get a flat panel at the base rather than the dopey-looking one that says Mercury.) So far, I love it!
